The HSOC Cyber Skills-First Fellowship Program is a hands-on learning experience for people aged 14 and up. Instead of just studying in a classroom, fellows get to work on real cybersecurity projects that help HSOC Cyber and its clients. This lets them learn useful skills, make their resumes stronger, improve their critical thinking and problem-solving, and create a strong portfolio to show off their cybersecurity work. 2. How is HSOC Cyber different from other cybersecurity training programs?

HSOC Cyber is different because it focuses on real cybersecurity projects instead of just regular labs or getting certifications. Fellows go through the HSOC Cyber Research process, which includes planning, doing, and sharing projects. This helps them learn both technical skills and project management. Fellows also show their work to experienced HSOC Mentors, who give helpful feedback and advice, as well as to other fellows.

3. What kind of projects do fellows work on?

Fellows work on projects that teach important cybersecurity skills, such as protecting systems, managing security, and using technology in smart ways. The projects become more challenging over time and include tasks like:

  • Working in Home Security Operations (HSOC)

  • Helping in Security Operations Centers (SOC)

  • Learning about Network Operations Centers (NOC)

  • Cloud Security

The fellowship offers different time options:

  • 6 months: $600

Mentors are experts in cybersecurity who guide fellows through their projects, give advice, and help them with their careers. Fellows also learn from each other with peer mentorship.

12. Can fellows use their project work for job applications?

Yes, fellows can certainly leverage their project work for job applications. Just like any other work experience, they can include their roles, place of work, and specific projects on their resumes. Additionally, showcasing completed projects on social media or professional networking platforms can help demonstrate their skills and abilities to potential employers.

Yes, fellows work within the Research and Development Department of HSOC Cyber, then present their work to the Customer Facing Department. Fellows work on real projects for clients, and may present their project to them for final approval, giving them unique experience and a chance to make a real impact.

15. When can I start the program?

You can start at any time. New fellows are welcome to join whenever they're ready.
